This is a book that I read in my English class which was basically about a man who cheats on his wife. It takes place in the 1800's in New York, when expectations were a lot different than they are now in terms of overall physical appearance, family and personal reputation, marriage, etc. Cheating on your wife or getting a divorce was not acceptable, therefore Newland (the main character) could not do anything about his infatuation with Ellen (the black sheep of society at the time). I think it's a well written book but I never like books about a couple where one is cheating and you're supposed to feel bad for that person because they're so miserable in the relationship that they're in that they have to go get what they want from another man/woman. Also, the book is hard to fallow and the language makes it somewhat boring. That's majority of the reason why I wasn't interested in it, because I couldn't stay focused or understand a lot of her writing. Overall, I think it was an okay book.
